Bloodstream infections (BSI) are curable with off-the-shelf antibiotics - but only if the pathogen causing the infection is accurately identified early on.
If not, BSI can quickly develop into sepsis, which only approx. 50% of patients survive - and which one of the most expensive conditions to treat because patients require intensive care unit
(ICU) support for 7-14 days, and average hospital length of stay for survivors is 3-5 weeks.
A rapid and accurate test for BSI is not available today and is considered the holy grail of diagnostics. The market for such a test is estimated to be worth 1 billion USD a year.
Stender Diagnostics has taken important and validated steps towards the development and regulatory approval of such a test.
