SOWINS provides shelter, safety, and support services for women, youth, and children affected by violence and abuse. SOWINS operates transition and second-stage housing, offering subsidized units with on-site support staff to help residents work toward independent living. The organization delivers intake, outreach, and advocacy services that
include emotional support, safety assessment and planning, referrals, and accompaniment to legal and other appointments. It offers counselling and community-based programs for women and children, including access to the Stopping the Violence Women’s Counselling Program. SOWINS also runs prevention and community education initiatives to strengthen the local response to gender-based violence. The organization engages donors, members, and volunteers through fundraising events, membership programs, and community campaigns to sustain its programs and services.
