Smart USA is the authorized U.S. smart fortwo distributor featuring mini electric cars and eco-friendly, green vehicles. It has marketed a range of vehicles and has its primary assembly plant in Hambach, France. The company’s products are marketed globally, including in Asia, North and South America, Australia, and in Europe and are available in
internal combustion, electric, and sport models.
The idea of Smart USA came up in the early 1990s when Nicholas Hayek, the inventor of the Swatch watch, approached Mercedes-Benz to realize his vision of an ""ultra-urban"" car and its outcome was innovative cars that were debuted at the 1997 Frankfurt Motor Show. Shortly thereafter in 1998, its products became famous in over 40 countries throughout the world. Nearly a decade passed, with the smart car constantly being refined with input and over one million smart cars sold worldwide before they even arrived in the United States.
In early 2008, the United States became the 37th country to sell the smart fortwo of Smart USA. The first U.S. market fortwo was delivered to a Manhattan resident in 2008. Since that time, over 45,000 smart fortwos have been sold in the United States.
Smart USA was founded in 1970.
