Sisters Unchained is a nonprofit organization that supports girls, young women, and nonbinary youth impacted by parental incarceration. The organization runs the Transformative Leadership Program, a paid summer and school-year intensive that combines political education on the prison system, emotional processing, arts-based expression, and
community organizing projects for youth with incarcerated parents. It offers Sister Legacy, a two-year component focused on college access and career exploration, providing mentorship, application support, campus visits, and a speaker series with women and nonbinary leaders. Sisters Unchained also organizes Radical Abolitionist Healing workshops that bring together formerly incarcerated women and youth for intergenerational healing. In addition, it facilitates rides and related emotional support for children and families visiting loved ones in Massachusetts prisons and jails. Across its programs, the organization centers abolitionist education, mental health support, and leadership development for youth and families affected by the prison system.
