Sauspiel was founded in early 2007 by Martin Kavalar, Agnes Reissner, Jan Bromberger and Stephan Eichler. It is financed solely by its founders. Since the launch, approximately 100.000 users have signed up to play the traditional Bavarian Card Game Schafkopf (Sheep´s
Head), which makes Sauspiel by far the largest site for online Schafkopf.
