Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission is a producer-led commission that administers a mandatory check-off on wheat, rye and triticale to support the wheat sector. The organization funds research projects on varietal improvement, production and post-production issues, and shares agronomic resources, maps, and on-farm trial results with farmers.
It undertakes market development activities to maintain and grow domestic and international demand for wheat and winter cereals. The Commission conducts policy analysis and advocacy on transportation, environmental and regulatory matters affecting wheat producers. It also provides producer communications and extension through events, podcasts, newsletters and technical guides. In addition, it supports education and research capacity through undergraduate and graduate scholarship programs related to wheat and agricultural science.
