Salad Finance Ltd (trading as Salad) is a social enterprise and Community Development Finance Institution (CDFI) helping people in full-time work with no, low or impaired credit scores access the credit they need at a cost they can afford.
Founded in 2018 when Glaswegian entrepreneur, philanthropist and consumer campaigner Alan Campbell identified
a severe lack of affordable credit for individuals with impaired credit scores, the firm has since won accolades including the Kings Award for Enterprise, “LendTech of the Year” in theUK FinTech Awards and the “Open Banking for Good” Award.
The firm’s applicants need to borrow, are excluded from mainstream finance by credit scoring, and want to avoid high-cost and illegal loans; Salad uses Open Banking and its own machine-learning technology to make fair lending decisions and signposts appropriate, relevant and trustworthy support to people it can’t lend to.
Salad is a member of Responsible Finance, the national membership body for CDFIs, and Innovate Finance, the industry body representing the UK’s fintech sector. Its investees include Alfie Holdings Limited on behalf of the Campbell Family, Fair4All Finance, which uses dormant assets to boost financial inclusion and Ceniarth, a family office which funds market-based solutions to benefit underserved communities.
