Russian Armed Forces referred to as the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, represent the military organization of the Russian state. They inherit much of the structure, doctrine, and infrastructure of the former Soviet military. The Armed Forces are under the authority of the Ministry of Defence and are headed by the Chief of the General
Staff. The President of Russia serves as the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, holding the highest authority over all military affairs. The military structure is divided into six official branches: the Ground Forces, the Navy, the Aerospace Forces, the Strategic Rocket Forces, the Airborne Forces, and the Special Operations Forces Command. Each branch functions independently under the general coordination of the General Staff, with distinct operational responsibilities.
