Roedean School is a leading UK day and boarding school for girls between the ages of 11 and 18. Founded in 1885 by sisters Penelope, Dorothy, and Millicent Lawrence, the Roedean vision was to offer girls an education that would equal a boy’s. Today, Roedean continues the Lawrences’ founding vision and provides girls with a high-quality, all-round
education in a safe and friendly community, where students achieve outstanding academic grades. But Roedean helps students pursue more than just impressive exam results. Alongside the pursuit of academic excellence, in a breathtaking campus affording countless opportunities, Roedean girls engage in a range of co-curricular activities. With 14 sports on offer, there’s something for everyone, and Roedean School encourages students of all abilities to take part in sports, believing whatever a pupil’s sporting aspirations, her experience should be enjoyable and rewarding. Likewise, there are plenty of chances for girls to get involved in the creative and performing arts, including stage shows, music concerts, recitals, and dance performances in the newly refurbished professional theatre. With an inspiring clifftop location on the East Sussex coast, just 10 minutes from bustling Brighton, Roedean School’s grounds of 110 acres house a farm and extensive facilities for girls to explore varied interests, challenge themselves with new adventures, and grow into confident, independent, compassionate individuals. With a student population originating from 40 countries, girls regularly encounter different cultural experiences and traditions. The School’s dynamic culture encourages a strong sense of community and helps students learn respect for their peers’ backgrounds. Roedean is a deeply socially aware school, and students play an active role in the wider community through volunteering and partnerships, gaining self-esteem and pleasure from their charitable efforts. In November 2021, the Independent Schools Inspectorate awarded Roedean “excellent” in every category, highlighting students’ progress, positivity, and willingness to engage in all areas of school life. Roedean’s holistic educational journey shapes pupils into independent individuals who show initiative and thrive beyond the classroom. Students leave Roedean School equipped with a rounded education and a breadth of success across various fields, ready to make a difference to society.
