RNA binding proteins that detect particular RNA transcript modifications determine the stability of the RNA transcripts. By using tiny compounds to target specific RNA epitranscriptomic machinery components, Prof.
Rotem Karni, the creator of RNAble, was able to stabilize a variety of RNAs, including unstable nonsense mutant transcripts that are destroyed by the nonsense mediated decay mechanism (NMD). As a result, it is now possible to stop the growth of particular tumors and to reinstate the expression of altered genes that are crucial in uncommon diseases.
