Open Connectivity Foundation” (OCF) to Promote IoT.
Standardized connectivity and synchronization between devices developed by numerous tech companies remains key to IoT’s success. “Despite the opportunity and promise of IoT to connect devices in the home or in businesses, competition between various open standards and closed company protocols
have slowed adoption and innovation.”
The group will develop standardized Internet of Things tools to help synchronize devices made by each member. The purpose is to collectively penetrate the high-growth Internet of Things (IoT) market. The OCF will help develop devices for home as well as industry use, and will be able to work together via standardized IoT solutions.
Previously, the AllSeen Alliance and Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC) were working separately to develop IoT synchronization tools. Under the new agreement, all OIC members will now move on to OCF. AllSeen members, however, will not abandon their separate activities, but they will follow the AllSeen IoT standard being developed by the OCF.
