Locai is a sovereign AI infrastructure and orchestration platform based in Cardiff, Wales. Regulated organisations use Locai to run artificial intelligence on their own servers, on-premises or in a private cloud, without sending data to third-party cloud providers.
The platform covers large language models, audio transcription, video processing,
and image analysis from a single control plane. Model outputs can feed directly into other models, making multimodal AI workflows possible on hardware the organisation already owns. Locai also fine-tunes and optimises compact open-weight models for on-device and off-cloud inference, targeting edge hardware including Apple M-series and NVIDIA consumer GPUs. Locai works with open-weight, third-party, and customer-supplied models and is not tied to any particular hardware vendor.
Locai is built for sectors where data residency and compliance are hard requirements: financial services, healthcare, defence, critical national infrastructure, and legal services. Products include Locai Link, an AI orchestration and inference layer, and Alcove, a secure agentic workspace for enterprise teams.
Locai was founded in May 2025 and is based at Tramshed Tech in Cardiff. Backers include Fuel Ventures, Google for Startups, and NVIDIA Inception.
