LingQ does not use a traditional grammar based approach to language learning, nor does it rely on pictures and games. LingQ's approach is based on a lot of reading and listening in the target language to content that is of interest to the learner. LingQ's system enables any authentic content to be used as learning material.

Currently, three different monthly membership levels are available including Free membership. Premium membership gives access to the premium functionality while Premium Plus also includes points which can be used for tutoring services like writing correction and live conversation.
