Hack the Hood is a nonprofit organization that introduces low-income youth to careers in technology by hiring and training them to build websites for small businesses in their own communities. During boot camps young people gain hands-on experiences, builds portfolios, and learn about opportunities in the tech industry, as well as building
technical, leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills with mentorship from staff and tech professionals working in the field. It is a diverse community of people who are passionate about making sure technology is used for good and it supports the youth to harness their creativity and hone their talents, while also contributing to the vitality of their communities.
Partners of the company are COLLECTIVE IMPACT, EMPOWER Program, Project YES, TEENFORCE, and Digital NEST. Google, OFCY, Infosys, ebay, THE SAN FRANCISCO FOUNDATION, and nVIDIA supports the company to achieve their targets. Hack the Hood is a U.S.-based company that was founded in 2013 by Mary Fuller, Susan Mernit, and Zakiya Harris.
