Flexicar is a membership-based carshare company founded by a group of university friends in 2004. Led by Monique Conheady, it began as a pilot project called Flo Carshare and received small business grants from Shell’s LiveWIRE program, the Victorian Government and the City of Melbourne.
Monique ‘discovered’ the carsharing concept in the 1990s
while she was visiting a friend in Boston, USA. She became determined that inner-city Melburnians should have convenient, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable access to a car without needing to personally own one.
