The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) was created in 1995 as a joint venture between the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA), the University of Neuchâtel and the City/State of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. As an independent study centre, with its headquarters in the Palais DuPeyrou, in Neuchâtel, CIES was set up to
address the inherent issues in the complex world of sport with a focus mainly in the fields of law, sociology and economics. Through high-level academic research and teaching, CIES’ aim is to understand the complexities of sport in today’s society and improve how it is governed and managed across all sports.
Since its creation, CIES has equipped itself with qualified and diversified staff and has become a truly international study centre through its partnerships with individuals, universities and sports organisations around the globe. It provides a unique platform that brings these partners together to pursue the development and sharing of knowledge across academic disciplines.
As an international forum providing research, education and consulting to the sports world, CIES constantly strives to further empower its staff, partners and the international sports community at large.
