EXCEMED – Excellence in Medical Education changed its name from Serono Symposia International Foundation (SSIF) on 28 April 2014.
The name change marked an exciting point in the evolution of the organisation; as EXCEMED further develops its scientific and geographical presence, it became increasingly important for the Foundation’s name to
accurately convey the independent nature of the education it offers.
The Foundation has provided world-class education to thousands of healthcare professionals over the past four decades, during this time organizing over 1500 international scientific congresses with more than 500 proceedings appearing in leading international publications.
EXCEMED has also pioneered online CME courses since 2000 and oversees an expanding portfolio of e-learning activities including video lectures, CME-accredited online courses and symposia. These digital ventures reach more than 12,500 people a month via the website or through EXCEMED’s e-newsletters.
As a non-profit global organization, EXCEMED is dedicated to improving the patient’s life through the provision of independent, high-impact continuing medical education to scientists, physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals.
The Foundation was created in the 1970s to honour the memory of Cesare Serono - an Italian scientist who devoted his life to improving health and patient care and they continue this tradition today.
EXCEMED is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and has a Representative Office in Rome, Italy.
