EDCO Ventures is a venture development organization that partners with universities, government laboratories, risk capital groups, and private individuals to discover and commercialize technologies and innovative business ideas. Texas. EDCO is a 501(c)(3) economic development non-profit organization.
The Economic Development Catalyst Organization (EDCO) was incorporated in 2005, as a 501(c)(3) corporation, with a mission of creating innovative companies and jobs with living wages in economically distressed areas. The company began doing business as EDCO Ventures in 2007 when it launched operations and began providing entrepreneurship services to emerging companies.
Since 2008, EDCO Ventures has made seed investments 4 companies, and has engaged with 12 other companies at the seed and pre-revenue stage. Millions of dollars in capital have been raised for EDCO portfolio companies, and more than 65 jobs have been created with seed level companies. Given the growth trajectory of high growth startups, these companies alone hold the promise for hundreds of additional new jobs in the next 3-5 years. In 2011, EDCO Ventures began focusing its efforts on Venture Development and Venture Capital, with the investment of $500,000 into one of its portfolio companies.
