CRESS Systems is engaged in the development of cost-saving energy storage systems for industrial applications since 2012. The original mechanical storage system being developed was designed by BP in the late 1980′s and further developed at Reading University. CRESS Limited was set up to exploit this research and turn the concepts into commercially
available Cost-Saving energy storage systems. The novel system is for the storage of electrical energy in a mechanical system, which is particularly well suited to transient energy storage in industrial applications.
In 2013 with the support of the Shell Springboard scheme, CRESS set up a new office in Reading and took on full-time engineering staff.
Currently, CRESS is supported by a UK DECC ‘Energy Entrepreneurs Fund’ grant and also a European CKIC ‘Susports’ grant. The current work relates to Cost Saving and fuel/Co2 reduction for applications in the port sector.
