Company Performance Metrics
In 2003, Mr. Laurent Sarry (a professor at the University of Auvergne) and IUT du Puy-en-Velay demonstrated the feasibility of undistorted projection from a master image. Since then, this research theme has become common to all research fellows at the “Digital Image” department of IUT du Puy-en-Velay.
In 2006, the university’s project was
elected during the ANR’s “audiovisual and multimedia program” call for tenders ». Laurent Sarry and the University of Auvergne then coordinated the ANR CATOPSYS (CATadiOptric Projection SYStems for virtual and mixed reality) project. A consortium agreement was signed by the University of Auvergne, the University Littoral Côte d’Opale (ULCO), the University Pierre et Marie Curie, and the companies SCROME and ALLEGORITHMIC.
A patent was filed on 9 August 2007 for the panoramic projection device. The patent was published on 13 February 2009 under number 2919934 and was awarded an international extension PCT (n° WO2009022087).
In 2009, the main achievements of the Catopsys project were a functional single projector system, automatic calibration software and software bricks for immersive projection. The prototype has since been improved and the transition from one to two video projectors has improved resolution by a factor of four. The use of a wider hemispheric mirror has significantly improved focus.
Two prototypes were produced in 2010-2011: one with a 180° screen and direct projection, the other with a dome and 360° projection. In 2011, Mr. Daniel Duhautbout joined the project team as manager. The software was then stabilised and the initial roll-outs met with success, first in February 2012 in front of a few partners and power users, in June 2012 during the Défense EuroSatory trade fair and in November 2012 at Siggraph Asia in Singapore.
SAS Catopsys was incorporated in January 2013 (Siret n° 790 873 566 00018) with Mr. Daniel Duhautbout as President.
