BlackStar Projects is a Black-led media arts nonprofit that supports Black, Brown, and Indigenous filmmakers and visual artists. The organization produces year-round programs including the BlackStar Film Festival, curated film screenings, exhibitions, and public events. It operates the William and Louise Greaves Filmmaker Seminar, the Philadelphia
Filmmaker Lab fellowship, and Many Lumens, a podcast featuring conversations with artists and cultural workers. BlackStar also publishes Seen, a journal of film and visual culture that presents criticism and essays from global contributors. Through these initiatives, BlackStar Projects provides platforms, funding, mentorship, and critical dialogue for creators working outside conventional genre boundaries and connects them with audiences, collaborators, and distributors.
