Ultrasonic technology driving the future of sustainable chemicals by separating non-food woody biomass into sugars, cellulose and lignin
- Adrian Black: CEOPast Role: NorthRow, Founder & CEO
- Miranda Lindsay-Fynn: Co-founder and Commercial Director
About the Company
Sonichem (formerly Bio-Sep) has developed a biorefinery process that uses ultrasonic reactors to convert the by-products of forestry and sawmill operations, where only 55% of wood harvested is turned into timber, into sugars, cellulose and pure lignin, with each $1 of sawdust converting into $8 of these bio-based chemicals. The process was proven
at lab scale, then in a pilot plant with a scalable reactor design to enable commercialisation. Patents granted in 10 markets and the 2021 Winner of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s prize for Best Enabling Technology.
