Our Methodology
Our proprietary methodology is based on 20 years of research, analysis and implementation. We have developed a toolset
that has been tested across numerous industries and has consistently led to increased performance for over 3,000 owner-operated, middle market businesses.
We use our methodology to increase the value of privately held businesses that are:
a) Primed for Growth, or
b) Preparing for Sale (full or partial)
Assay increases the value of a business by focusing on the valuation multiple. In the valuation formula for a business “M” represents the “Valuation Multiple”:
Valuation = Profit x Multiple (“V = P x M”)
‘M’ is defined as the future earning potential of a company while ‘P’ represents the historic performance of the business. Typically the formula to increase ‘P’ is simple – sell more, command a higher margin for your product, or do both. While we agree that growing ‘P’ is important, Assay also focuses on ‘M’ because it will not only increase future profit but also result in dramatically higher valuations.
We guide our clients through our methodology helping them achieve multiples higher than the industry average, the benchmark from which to compare one company against another. The businesses that achieve higher multiples are considered the best performers and those with lower multiples would be the under-performers in the industry.
