Dr. West is an emeritus professor within the chemistry department at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and oversees the synthesis and purification work for OS compounds at Silatronix. Dr. West is internationally recognized as a thought leader in silicon chemistry. West’s most well-known discovery was the synthesis of the first ever
silicon-silicon double bond in 1981, a feat which broke the so-called “double-bond rule” stating the main group elements below row two of the periodic table could not form double bonds. In 2005, Dr. West received an R&D 100 Award for Technical Innovation regarding the organosilicon electrolytes being commercialized by Silatronix. Dr. West received a Ph.D. degree from Harvard University in 1954.
