Force.com is a PaaS-based system that simplifies the development and deployment of cloud-based applications and websites.
It enables developers to create and deploy applications that can leverage core functionality provided by Salesforce.com such as workflows, business processes, mobile software development kits, communities, and real-time hierarchical reporting. Companies can host their apps on Force.com as an alternative to Amazon Web Services, Rackspace, SugarCRM, or other cloud-based platforms.
Force.com also provides developers with fundamental knowledge in technologies such as Apex, which is a proprietary programming language similar to Java; Visualforce, a view control technology; and more.
