As general counsel for edX, Tena is responsible for the legal affairs of edX, providing timely and practical advice in the fast-growing and uncharted field of MOOCs. In addition to handling intellectual property matters, contract negotiations, regulatory issues and general corporate matters, Tena has provided counsel on business operations since the inception of edX in 2012.
Prior to joining edX, Tena was a lawyer in MIT’s Office of the General Counsel, where she quickly adopted MIT’s mission of improving the world through higher education. Tena also draws from broad legal experience working both in private practice and as in-house counsel to navigate the emerging legal challenges created as edX aims to educate a billion people.
Tena is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Boston College Law School. She is a mother to two daughters who have graduated from college and a 10-year-old son. She expects her son will have a very different college experience than her daughters did, as MOOCs will raise the quality and style of education both online and in the classroom.
