Dr. Stephen Gucker is a former U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office (USPTO) examiner (20+ years in complex biotechnology) and is a registered U.S. patent agent. He is a proud graduate of The Johns Hopkins University (JHU) (Go Blue Jays!) and received his doctoral degree in Neuroscience from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry
(part of the last class of the old Center for Brain Research (CBR)). Dr. Gucker was awarded a National Research Associate Fellowship from the U.S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) to conduct his postdoctoral research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Gucker has been a consultant with engineers from Mission Research Corporation on a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program grant for Defense Technology Conversion, Reinvestment, and Transition Assistance for the Technology Reinvestment Project (TRP) by authoring the biotechnology section of a proposal for the development of new glucose biosensors for diabetics. Dr. Gucker’s professional interest in brain/behaviour relationships traces back to when he was a clinical research technician in the Neuropharmacology Research Laboratory at the JHU School of Medicine where he acted as a liaison between neurologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists as part of a clinical research team working with schizophrenic and dementia patients during which time he co-authored his first peer-reviewed publication.
