Ranked # 1 in the world in 1971 and 1972, Stan received international acclaim as a world-class tennis player known for his sportsmanship and courtesy. Winner of the US Open in 1971, Wimbledon in 1972, 4-time US Open Doubles Champion, and a member of 7 winning Davis Cup Teams, he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1987 and
became its President in 2011. He was a founding member of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the USA Men’s Tennis Coach for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia. Stan’s worldwide fame extends to the fashion world with the legendary Adidas Stan Smith shoe (Sports Illustrated Podcast, New York Magazine Article). As Chairman of Stan Smith Events, Stan leads in setting the philosophy of the company and is the primary host of all events. Through his international reputation and affiliations he enables clients to experience exclusive opportunities.
Presently Stan is the Touring Professional for Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island, SC, home of the Smith Stearns Tennis Academy. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club. He is a Trustee of Hilton Head’s Heritage Foundation which has raised more than $35 million for local charities. He and his wife, Margie, have four grown children and twelve grandchildren.
