Philip holds degrees in architecture, urban and regional planning and a Master of Architecture (University of Pennsylvania) under a Fulbright Scholarship. Philip joined the Greater Sydney Commission in January 2018. Prior to that Cox Architecture from 1992 becoming a director in 1997. Philip chaired the Cox National Practice from 2013 to 2016.
Philip has directed urban planning, master planning and residential projects in Australia and internationally. Significant projects include the Parramatta Road Urban Renewal Corridor (2017 NSW Planning Institute of Australia NSW awards for Best Ideas and Hard-Fought Victory), Sydney Olympic Village Master Plan, the Quadrant off Broadway high-density mixed-use development (NSW Urban Taskforce Residential Development Excellence Award), and Putney Hill (2017 UDIA Residential Master Plan Award).
Philip chairs the North Sydney Design Excellence Panel.
In 2014 Philip was appointed inaugural Conjoint Professor of Built Environment at the UNSW, engaging the Faculty more closely with the profession and industry till 2017. He published a book on Australian Housing with Philip Cox and Bob Meyer in 2011.
