Nimrata Haley is the former U.S. Permanent Representative to the United Nations, serving as part of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet and National Security Council. At the U.N., Ambassador Haley prioritized accountability and efficiency, introducing reforms that improved transparency and saved over $1.3 billion, including rightsizing peacekeeping
missions to enhance their effectiveness in protecting civilians.
In the U.N. Security Council, Haley worked to defend American interests, leading negotiations for the strongest sanctions ever imposed on North Korea, drastically cutting its export and oil access. She also championed human rights by confronting oppressive regimes in countries like Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba, and Russia, and organized the U.N. Security Council's first session focused solely on human rights. Haley visited displaced populations globally, from Syrian refugees to Venezuelan migrants, witnessing their challenges firsthand and collaborating on solutions.
Throughout her tenure, she strongly supported U.S. allies, particularly Israel, issuing the first U.S. veto in six years to uphold the country's decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem.
Before her role at the U.N., Haley made history as the first female and minority Governor of South Carolina, serving from 2011 to 2017. Under her leadership, South Carolina became a leader in economic development, achieving record-low unemployment, over $20 billion in new investment, and creating more than 85,000 jobs across the state. She also led South Carolina’s largest education reform in decades, focusing on equitable funding, early literacy, and technology in classrooms.
