Dr. Dean completed his Ph.D. at the Welsh National School of Medicine in 1984 before conducting post-doctoral research at the National Institutes of Health and the University of Hawaii. In 1991 he joined Isis Pharmaceuticals to develop oligonucleotide-based therapeutics. He remained at Isis until 2006 where he was employed at Vice President of
Functional Genomics and Oncology, and Managing Director Isis Singapore. After leaving Isis, in 2006 he founded Excaliard Pharmaceuticals, a biotech company focused on developing RNA based drugs to treat skin scarring. Excaliard Pharmaceuticals was sold to Pfizer Inc. in late 2011 after the successful completion of three Phase 2 clinical trials. Dr. Dean is currently an independent consultant in the Biotech industry. Dr. Dean has published over 120 scientific articles, and has over 50 issued patents
