Michael Vivio was named president of Cox Target Media in December 2010. Cox Target Media owns Valpak, one of the leading direct marketing companies in North America.
Previously, Vivio was the publisher at the Austin American-Statesman, owned by Cox Media Group. Since 2008, he was responsible for all business and editorial operations at the
Statesman and its affiliated publications, including Statesman.com, which has the highest local reach of any newspaper website in the U.S. Vivio is credited with “developing new revenue streams to offset declines in advertising revenue and on maintaining audience reach by creating or acquiring niche publications.”
Before joining the Austin American-Statesman, Vivio was publisher of the Waco Tribune-Herald. He began his career as a newspaper carrier for the Dayton Daily News in 1978 and held advertising positions at the Marion Star (Ohio) and Suburban News Publications. He also has owned an independent marketing firm in Ohio.
While in Austin, Vivio served on the boards of the Salvation Army, Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, United Way Capital Area, and the Texas Daily Newspaper Association. Vivio's wife Beth is a full-time community volunteer and they have two sons.
