Matt has been a songwriter and recording artist since the age of 14, winning a Warner Chappell scholarship for his compositions at the age of 15. Although Matt started out as an acoustic recording artist, he began experimenting with synthesizers and sampling technology in the early 80’s. He released his first two records in 1983, later signing a
major label deal in 1992 with noted producer and songwriter Dan Hartman (Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, James Brown, Steve Winwood, etc).
After Dan’s untimely death in 1994, Matt started a Rock Music School which grew to over 17 bands a week, and started an Arctic Fishing lodge in Ungava Quebec in the summers where he guided clients to several fly fishing world records, did three ESPN fishing shows, and regularly contributed to fishing publications such as In fisherman, and Fly Fisherman.
Moving to Nashville in 2000, Matt built his own recording studio and started “Wilderside Productions,” which produced demos for artists and writers from all three major labels and numerous publishing companies. Matt began teaching recording technology at Vanderbilt University in 2001, where he taught for 15 years. Matt moved his production operation to Castle Recording studios in 2009.
