Prior to retiring as Chairman, I had grown BBVA’s subsidiary in the US from 2k to 10k employees and from $3bn to $100bn in assets. Through the acquisition of six banks and $40bn of organic growth in assets, BBVA Compass became one of the top 20 US commercial banks by deposits, while also landing at #1 on American Banker’s reputation ranking.
I
contributed to this exponential growth by shifting to a client centric business model, aggressively adopting digital servicing, transforming the bank’s operational structure, and managing critical institutional and government relationships.
During my tenure, BBVA Compass evolved as a bank driven by principles and innovation across the Sunbelt. In the midst of the financial crisis, I strategized the migration to a new core banking system and the pioneering of a mobile & online banking services, which earned the bank the recognition of Model Bank of the Year by Celent.
As a member of BBVA’s global executive committee, I represented the bank on national and international fora and was a frequent speaker at major industry events, including in-depth discussions with former President, George W. Bush and Apple co-founder, Steve Wozniak. I supported the launch of innovative digital marketing initiatives in the context of sports and cultural sponsorships such as the NBA, the stadium of MLS Houston Dynamo and several fine arts & classical music organizations in our footprint. BBVA became a banking household name in Texas and across the Sunbelt.
Having established BBVA Compass as a regional banking leader, I look forward to opportunities where I can leverage my technology innovation, financial management, and relationship building skills to contribute to financial operational excellence.
