Mahtab is the founder and CEO of Master Ed, an AI-powered voice-first assessment platform that evaluates thinking, not just outputs, for credential-based learning. The platform enables universities, professional certification bodies, corporate L&D programs, and admissions offices to verify real competency through adaptive conversational
evaluations, proving what learners actually understand in an AI-saturated world.
Validated through interviews with 150+ stakeholders across five countries, Master Ed is now deployed with early adopters including University of Toronto and Texas A&M, spanning course assessments, admissions interviews, and professional certifications.
Prior to founding Master Ed, Mahtab spent 12 years at Schlumberger, where he led predictive maintenance programs across Middle East oilfields and commercialized breakthrough technologies. Most notably, he conceptualized and pioneered "Live Descaling," creating an entirely new market segment that has generated over $100 million in revenue to date.
Mahtab holds an engineering degree from IIT Kharagpur and an Executive MBA from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, where he was recognized in Poets&Quants' "Best & Brightest MBAs 2025." During his Executive MBA, Master Ed emerged from recognizing that AI had made traditional assessments obsolete: proving competency now requires evaluating how people think, not what they produce.
