John is a well-respected technopreneur and investor who has invested in and nurtured many successful enterprises, and also held pivotal roles in the development of two global internet giants, Alibaba Group and Yahoo! Inc. He co-founded F&H in 2010 and oversaw F&H’s development into a leading Asian investment platform. John was named China
Angel Investor of the Year 2014 by Entrepreneur, China edition.
He was a Venture Partner at Northern Light Venture Capital (AUM of US$1bn) from 2008 to 2010, angel investor and ex-CTO of Alibaba Group (NYSE: BABA) from 2000 to 2007, and led Yahoo! Inc.’s search and e-commerce technology engineering team in the USA from 1996 to 1999, during which he was awarded a US patent for his technological achievement in the area of “Semi-structured Search”.
As an active investor since 2000, John has also identified, invested in and nurtured several promising entrepreneurial companies. For example, he is a co-founder and investor of Huazhu Hotels Group (NASDAQ: HTHT), a hotel chain in China with over 2,000 hotels; angel investor of Focused Photonics (SZSE: 300203), a high tech instrumentation company; and angel investor in Jumei.com (NYSE: JMEI), an e-commerce company in the beauty sector.
John is also a regular guest speaker at high profile conferences and colleges (e.g., Harvard Business School, National University of Singapore, Techventure).
John graduated from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science with High Distinction.
