Jan Lutz founded the Büro für Gestalten in Stuttgart in 2007. Launched as a communications office, the focus was on external presentations for companies with ecological demands and campaigns for ecosocial organizations. Today, the development of ideas and strategies as well as consulting for sustainable mobility is the largest business area of
the Stuttgart office. Jan Lutz works as a social innovator in the "Reallabor for Sustainable Mobility Culture". Since 2015, he has been the Lab Lead of the Open Knowledge Lab Stuttgart, a group whose goal is to make communal data public. The idea of "Open Data" is also based on the fine dust measurement project airdaten.info. The Citizen Science project has been implemented for two years by a team of the OK Lab Stuttgart and other Grassroot initiatives.
