J. Robert Shaw is a distinguished technology entrepreneur, investor, and executive with a career spanning over three decades in e-commerce, software development, and enterprise solutions. Robert is best known as the Co-Founder and former CEO of Video Insight, Inc., a leading developer of enterprise-class video management software (VMS). Founded in 2002, Video Insight became a dominant force in the North American education market, serving over 6,500 schools and campuses. Under Robert's leadership, the company achieved a 40% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) without outside funding, eventually leading to its acquisition by Panasonic Corporation in 2015. Following the acquisition, he continued to lead the company as a wholly owned subsidiary of Panasonic, focusing on international expansion and product innovation.
A pioneer of the early e-commerce era, Robert founded Ashford.com in 1998, which became one of the first and most prominent online retailers for luxury watches and jewelry. He led the company through its initial public offering (IPO) on NASDAQ and established strategic partnerships with major platforms like Amazon.com. His earlier ventures include the founding of Synergy Development Corp. in 1989 and Emerging.com in 1999.
Throughout his career, Robert has been recognized for his entrepreneurial excellence, notably being selected as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year in 2000 and named a Top Ten award winner by Texas E-com. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics, cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas.
