Sports Medicine and injury rehabilitation have always fascinated me. I graduated from the University of Queensland in 1991 with degrees in both Physical Therapy and Human Movement Studies. One year later, I founded the Allsports Physical Therapy group, with six outpatient physical therapy clinics in Brisbane, Australia. With my strong sports
medicine background, I was appointed head physical therapist to the National Rugby League’s Brisbane Broncos in 1996. For six years, I travelled nationally and internationally, taking care of the rehabilitation needs of the team.
My primary passion, however, has always been to provide world-class physical therapy to the general community. When I met my partners, Gary and Lorilie Cunningham in 2004, we recognized the tremendous opportunity to bring newer, more effective therapy techniques to the US.
We learned that, too often, physicians and patients in the US regarded physical therapy as nothing more than an expensive hot pack and generic exercises. Yet we also discovered that many US therapists were eager to learn more about hands-on manual therapy and to elevate the status of their profession. In 2005, I moved with my family from Australia to Tennessee to implement some of the training and treatment strategies which had proven successful in Australia.
The cornerstone of our clinical practice has always been the prescription of specific, progressive and individualized exercises augmented by manual therapy techniques and extensive patient education. To achieve and maintain this, our therapists commit to a challenging curriculum of continuing education. Maintaining excellent service quality across multiple clinics requires a cohesive management team and therapists who understand the importance and professional validation associated with their unique clinical skill set. It gives me great pleasure to guide this effort each day.
My partners and I share a common belief that every person in our organization is important. We also fervently believe that a true measure of business success is to create and propagate a corporate culture in which we are all proud to serve.
