Prior to founding Atypon he developed the software that enabled the Journal of Biological Chemistry to be the first scientific journal to be published on the Web. He also developed a sophisticated access control system for Rizzoli Publishing (now RCS Media Group).
A Fulbright Scholar, Georgios earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, and Master and Doctor degrees in Computer Science from New York University.
