David Conroy is a Professor of Kinesiology and Human Development at The Pennsylvania State University, and an Adjunct Professor of Preventive Medicine at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His research focuses on developing strategies to make health behavior change less effortful and more enjoyable. His work applies scientific
insights on human motivation to inform how technology is used to increase physical activity, reduce sedentary behavior, and improve adherence to prevention guidelines (e.g., increasing fluid intake for patients with kidney stones). He recently served as a consultant to the US Physical Activity Guidelines Advisory Committee and contributed to the report that served as the evidentiary basis for the 2018 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. His current research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation. He sits on the editorial board for eight scientific journals. His work has appeared in feature stories from major media outlets, such as National Public Radio, The New York Times, Washington Post and USAToday.
