Cameron Poetzscher is a business executive with an extensive background in technology, media and telecommunications. He is the Vice President of Corporate Development at Uber, where he is focused on M&A, global fundraising, business operations and corporate strategy. Prior to Uber, Poetzscher was a Managing Director in Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs where he worked in multiple roles throughout the US and Asia over 17 years.
Early Career and Education
Cameron Poetzscher attended the University of Queensland, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. As a graduate, he joined Booz & Company in the role of consultant, responsible for advising multinationals across Asia-Pacific on strategic, operational, organizational and financial issues. He then continued his education at Harvard Business School, where he earned an MBA with Distinction, including First and Second Year Honors.
Following his graduation from Harvard Business School, Cameron stayed on as a Research Fellow, working for Professor Peter Tufano. In his role as a Research Fellow, Poetzscher was involved in researching a variety of topics including options, credit derivatives and hedging. He also assisted with the development of academic courses.
Poetzscher began his long career with Goldman Sachs as an Associate in the Technology Media Telecom Group in 1996. He was was promoted to Vice President and then to Managing Director of the Technology/Media/Telecom Group. He then took on the role of COO of M&A Asia-Pacific ex-Japan and ultimately Head of M&A Southeast Asia. He began his Goldman Sachs career in New York, before moving to San Francisco and finally to Asia in 2008 before returning to San Francisco.
Highlights of Poetzscher’s lead managed deals at Goldman Sachs include TCC’s $11.4B purchase of Fraser & Neave, Disney’s $7.5B acquisition of Pixar, Vivendi Games' $7B acquisition of Activision, Telecom NZ’s $1.6B sale of its directories business to CCMP and Ontario Teachers and DreamWorks Animation’s $934M IPO.
Poetzscher joined Uber in 2014 as VP of Corporate Development where his expertise in deal execution, negotiations and strategic partnerships have been critical. His experience with early stage technology companies along with his Asia-Pacific experience have also been valuable as Uber looks to augment its core technical capabilities and expand its footprint across Asia.
Cameron Poetzscher lives in San Francisco with his wife and two children.
