Dr. Tarter was most recently the eighth director to lead Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and has spent most of his career at the Laboratory.
He is a theoretical physicist by training and has headed many critical committees concerning Livermore’s science and policy priorities. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and received
the Roosevelts Gold Medal award for Science.
He holds a B.S. in Physics from MIT and a PhD in Physics from Cornell University.
