A graduate of Ferris State University with a bachelor of science in criminal justice, Brian Uridge also holds a master's degree in public administration from Western Michigan University. For more than 20 years, he served as a member of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, with the last four years serving as Assistant Chief of Operations,
where he managed a $34 million annual budget and oversaw all fire, police, narcotics, and criminal investigations personnel. Under Brian Uridge’s leadership, the department achieved a 20 percent reduction in major crimes over a period of three years. Brian is the recipient of the Kalamazoo Public Safety Lifesaving Award and the Kalamazoo Public Safety Medal of Valor.
Since 2018, Mr. Uridge has served as deputy director of public safety and security with the University of Michigan and as director of security for Michigan Medicine, the university’s health system. Managing more than 230 public safety staff members, he helped integrate law enforcement into the health system and developed the first-ever security K-9 program. He also serves as a sworn police officer for the university. Outside of his professional responsibilities, Brian enjoys flying and boating.
