Armaan Sengupta is a current senior at Dublin High School that will be attending Harvard for Computer Science in the fall. He was at the IoT World Event last year to speak about his BeSafe Band device and his journey in creating it. The BeSafe Band is basically a bracelet that, with the inconspicuous touch of a button, can connect to your phone via

Bluetooth and alert friends, family, and police that the user is in serious danger. This project had first started as a clunky prototype out of Arduino electrical hardware but became more condensed through PCB remodeling. Armaan then did a summer internship under Professor Protopapas from Harvard IACS to explore how machine learning algorithms can be utilized within wearable, IoT devices. Currently, he has been working with Suraj Ethirajan from Samsung ARTIK to develop the BeSafe Band using Samsung's latest IoT hardware. ARTIK 020 Starter kit has a strong BLE module as well as different types of sensors and buttons to develop the project. It is through the multitude of sensors and strong IoT links that the kit is able to offer that Armaan is able to proceed with BeSafe Band and combine it with effective machine learning algorithms to infer and prevent emergency situations from impacting the user. Ms. Chou has also been able to make this whole journey possible for Armaan through the skills he has acquired in her classes at Dublin High's Engineering Academy. Armaan's next step of the journey is to obtain even more skills at Harvard in the fall.
