Mr. Poles is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. Since being called to the Bar in 1996, he has specialized in the investment management industry for domestic and international clients. Prior to joining Marquest, Mr. Poles has held roles as a member of Senior Management of a number of Canadian and Global Financial Services firms and
also practiced law in Toronto, most recently as Senior Associate in the Investment Funds and Asset Management law group at Torys LLP. In that capacity he has represented fund managers, promoters, advisors and distributors in the hedge fund industry, in addition to the mutual fund, private pooled fund, structured (listed) fund and equity fund areas. He has served on numerous industry committees, including also serving as the Chair of the Regulatory Committee of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada and as a member of the Alternative Investment Management Association (Canada) – Legal and Finance Committee. Mr. Poles is frequently invited to speak at industry conferences and since 2003 has been a non-practicing member of the Law Society of England and Wales.
