Amahl Smith serves as treasurer on Business & Human Rights Resource Centre’s board.
Amahl is Accountant to the Royal Commission for the Exhibition of 1851, a UK grant-making charity that exists ‘to increase the means of industrial education and extend the influence of science and art upon productive industry’. After a brief career in
philosophy, he qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG and has 15 years experience in the charity sector including time spent as Finance Director of St Mary’s Paddington Charitable Trust, the Institute for Public Policy Research and the National Asthma Campaign. He was formerly Treasurer of Amnesty International UK, a trustee of the Charity Finance Directors’ Group, and provides pro bono accountancy services to a number of charities including the Primary Care Respiratory Society UK and the Centre for Scientific Archives @ the Science Museum.
Amahl was educated at New College, Oxford, the City University of New York and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He has published a number of articles and book reviews in the areas of philosophy and cognitive science.
