It runs therapy dog and facility dog programs that place dogs in hospitals, schools,
nursing homes, libraries, and other settings. The Exceptional Sidekick supports education and advocacy efforts that teach the public about service dogs, mental health, and disability rights. It coordinates volunteer puppy raisers to raise and socialize future service dogs and manages released dogs that transition to therapy roles or family pets. The Exceptional Sidekick operates as a nonprofit and relies on donations and planned giving to fund dog training, care, and placement.
