Team Polar develops autonomous, solar-powered rovers to improve Antarctic logistics and support scientific research. The organization focuses on designing, building, and testing vehicles that can traverse long distances in polar environments while operating with zero emissions. Its work includes early-stage prototyping such as the Ice Cube rover
and the development of Gentoo, a second-generation autonomous research and logistics rover designed for extended operation in Antarctic conditions. Team Polar also builds autonomous navigation, energy management, and risk management systems tailored to snow, ice, and extreme weather. In addition, it provides a project environment where students work in multidisciplinary subteams covering engineering, business, logistics, and management to deliver the rover missions.
