Smokehouse Foundation is an Indigenous-led charitable organization that provides programs for people in remote and marginalized communities. The foundation supports access to basic infrastructure such as clean drinking water and internet services. It advances education through continuing education and job training courses in areas including
tourism, business management, environmental management, technical skills, vessel operation, and first aid. Smokehouse Foundation collaborates with communities and Indigenous guardian initiatives to conserve and restore ecosystems and biodiversity. It promotes health by facilitating access to mental health counseling services where regular services are otherwise unavailable. The organization also runs the South Island Indigenous Reciprocity Trust, collecting payments from residents and businesses and transferring them to participating Nations to support Indigenous-led priorities in land, language, and Nation rebuilding.
